The first and most important tip is to choose a storage shed which will easily store all of the belongings you wish to keep.  Use this Storage Estimator to assist you in choosing an appropriate sized shed. Mammoth Storage Sheds have a size to suit all needs – just check the range by clicking the pricing tab above.

When you are packing your household things up, it may be a good time to sort out the things you want to sell or give away, rather than store everything and sort at the other end. (however long this may be) To save you time, plan where all your items will be placed before you start unpacking them from your truck or trailer.

Planning Your Storage Space within the Sheds

As a general rule, place large, heavy items that you can stack upon at the rear of the shed – so keep these together so you can move them to the back all at the same time. In the same token, keep lighter fragile items together so they can be placed on top and out of harms way.

Although Mammoth Storage Sheds have an onsite manager and is set amongst bushland on a local and mostly unused road, its best to pack your shed so that your valuable items are at the far back. With two steel poles at the front of each shed and double padlocking system, it would be difficult to break in – however taking a few precautions will give you peace of mind.

Place the items that you may need to access often in the front of the unit. Depending on the goods you have stored, you may need to allow for walk ways. using professional packing materials such as boxes will keep your items in a better condition than if using second-hand fruit boxes which often have little stability and many air holes (allowing access to vermin and dust)

When Packing Your Storage Shed

* Try to use boxes that are a similar size, not only are they easier to stack, but when you have alot of them its easier to handle similar packages down from your truck or trailer, rather than odd shaped ones. If you keep the heavy ones (with books and tools) on the bottom and the lighter ones (with clothes or toys) on top you are less likely to cause any long term damage to your precious items.
* No doubt when you packed you will have marked your boxes clearly with large lettering.  Make sure this hard work is not wasted by facing all the writing inward or to a uniform spot so when you go looking for a specific box, you can easily locate it.
* Its a good idea to leave a path up the middle of the shed and the boxes or furniture  so you can  get to  items you may need access to quickly. this saves on you having to move anything around.

* Treat any metal objects  like lawnmowers, tools, ornaments or filing cabinets with rust inhibitor or  protector.
* Humidity is a major enemy to items within self-storage sheds. Wrapping items in plastic will only cause mildew and mould and make your wooden furniture warp or rot. Leave enough small walkways or spaces between large items so it  allows  air to circulate within the shed. Cover your items with old cotton sheets or raise all your items up with pallets or wooden planks if you are concerned.
* Fridges are best stored open. using the power cord firmly wedged in the door is often enough – but ensure something permanent leaves the door ajar. This will prevent mold from growing inside.
